Braid: Novel Writing

Braid Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 3, 2026

Braid is a writing app for iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Watch. This policy explains what happens to your information.

The short version

Your writing is yours. Braid has no accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. We (the developer) never receive your books, notes or recordings.

Where your data lives

  • On your devices, in Braid’s private storage.
  • In your own iCloud account, if iCloud is turned on for Braid, so your books sync between your devices. This is Apple’s service, covered by Apple’s Privacy Policy. The developer can’t access your iCloud data.

Features that use your device or other services

  • Microphone: used only when you record a voice note. Recordings are stored with your book.
  • Speech recognition and handwriting recognition: run on your device where supported, to turn recordings and handwriting into searchable text.
  • Apple Music: if you connect it, Braid reads your playlists so you can choose one to play while writing. Nothing is sent to us.
  • Research links: when you add a web link, Braid fetches that page (and, for YouTube, YouTube’s public video information) to fill in the title, author, date and preview. Those sites receive a normal web request from your device.
  • Grammar suggestions: use Apple’s on-device model where available. Your text isn’t sent anywhere.
  • Sharing and feedback: documents you export or send are shared only with the people and apps you choose.
  • Purchases: Braid Pro is sold through Apple. Apple handles payment; we receive no payment details.

Children

Braid doesn’t knowingly collect any personal information from anyone, including children.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new date.
